Desiree’ means desired. It is a name of french origin, and was the name of Napoleons first mistress. One of the most sought after women of her time, Desiree Clary was initially courted by Jospeh Bonaparte. She became engaged to him before becoming romantically involved with his brother, the infamous Napoleon. She was ditched when Josephine came along, but her popularity did not suffer! Despite the many offers put to her by other eligible bachelors, she married a General Bernadotte and, when he was adopted by the childless King of Sweden, she then became royalty - Queen Desideria of Sweden. Her son became King Oscar I of Sweden and the royal house she helped begin still reigns today.
