The Peony, genus Peonia, has featured in Eastern culture for centuries.. Along with the plum blossom, it is a traditional floral symbol of China. It’s known as the "flower of riches and honour" or "king of the flowers", and is used symbolically in many Chinese artworks through the ages. Ancient Chinese texts talk of the Peony being used for flavouring food. Confusius himself apparently said: "I eat nothing without its sauce. I enjoy it very much, because of its flavour’. Perhaps she tastes as good as she looks!
